A Message from Reverend Ginny Roll...
Friends at Unity Fellowship Church,
July 2010
Friends at Unity Fellowship Church,
As many of you know, I had an opportunity to attend the
Unity People’s Conference the week of June 7. This conference is attended by
ministers, leaders and congregants throughout
the world. This yearly conference enables me to learn, get new ideas and
reconnect with ministers throughout the Unity Movement. I came back feeling
rejuvenated and eager
to share with you what I learned.
All throughout the week one theme continued to surface. he theme was oneness. It was so synchronistic for me because our service in the park on Sunday prior to my leaving, was about oneness. Both our Vision and Mission statements encompass the ideas of respect and oneness of all.
A secondary idea woven throughout the conference was hat we are getting very close to shifting the conscience on the ntire planet. Barbara Marx Hubbard, a prolific futurist, writer and public speaker, whose organization is called the Foundation for Conscious Evolution, made the bold statement that “we will see this shift in our lifetime.”
Once again I am reminded of our Vision statement which states we joyfully live in an enlightened world united in love, peace and respect for all creation. We are all intricately involved in creating this new world. Barbara Marx Hubbard also said, “We are not here to fix this world. We are here to create a new world.” Think about that statement for a moment. We are all here on this planet right now to help create his new world, a world where we realize and live as one with one another and all of creation. How do we do this?
We must change our thinking.
As we look out into the world, it is easy to see and feel separation. We feel separation because of distance, we feel separation because of different skin color, different languages, ifferent cultures, different religions, different economics etc. However, when we look beyond all this appearance of separation, we are more alike than separate. We are alike because our basic needs reverberate throughout the human family and we were all created by the same Source.
Marshall Rosenberg, PhD., in his many books on Nonviolent Communication, states that: there are some universal, life-serving needs such as:
Autonomy—the ability to choose, independence and freedom.
Celebration—the ability to live with excitement and passion.
Connection—the ability to belong
Integrity—the ability to live lives with meaning and authenticity
These are just a few of the ones that are mentioned, but I
think you get the point that these needs connect us as a human family. I was
watching the World Cup Soccer Tournament in
South Africa last week. I saw the beginning of the match that featured Japan and
their opponent. I remember watching as each country’s national anthem was
played. The camera
was taking very close pictures of the players’ faces. I could see in their eyes
the pride in their accomplishment and in their country. I could feel their
emotion. I could feel their pride, and because of this I felt as if I knew them,
I felt one with them even though they were in South Africa and I was sitting in
my living room.
We must take time to pray and meditate.
We all recognize that the activity in our everyday lives
leaves us little room to remember our connection with God. It is easy to go
through the entire day and never think about
anything other than the next thing needing to be done. I encourage you to take
some silent time in the morning or in the evening and say a prayer of gratitude
for the day. Just fifteen
minutes of quiet allows you to remember God’s presence and listen to the “still
small voice” within. I invite you to begin a practice now.
Here are just two ideas that you can do to participate in creating a “new world.” Are they easy? No, but I want you know that you are here now because you are a catalyst in this change. This is a pivotal time in our world and you are here because you are the ones that are needed now.
I love and support each one of you as you continue on your
journey of enlightenment. As you turn within, your light will shine brightly out
into the world, a new world.
Abundant Blessings,
Rev. Ginny
